You probably did wipe out a rod bearing and crank journal but I doubt that your head is beyond using. You mentioned in an earlier post that you had your valve cover powder coated which means that it was glass beaded or sand blaster first where harmful blasting media gets trapped in the breather portion of the valve cover and then works it's way into the oil galleries and causes a rod bearing failure! If you do end up going through your original engine I have lots of good used late '86 up 2.0 crankshafts and rods! As many good used parts as there are out there I wouldn't recommend having crank reground as it is expensive and very few now day do a proper job.
