The contamination wouldn't have hurt your block, just the crank and maybe a rod or two. Your timing cover/oil pump me be damaged as well especially the oil pressure relief valve and it's bore. When we have a Saab valve cover powder coated we remove the little riveted on plate and then drill and tap for 4mm Allen button head machine screws where the rivet like things use to be.
