When you try to shift the '92 into 1st, does it grind a bit or just not go in?
If it grinds a bit, suspect a bad pilot bearing in the flywheel - it will grab the primary shaft and keep it rotating, making it hard to get into 1st.
Upside to the '92 is that it's a T and has the newer brakes. Downside is ABS and airbag. But you're used to the ABS. (BTW, did you keep the wrecked '90 to strip for parts?)
Check the usual spots for rust.
