Removing cluch without Saab "special tool"

Well, I am stuck. I've replaced the clutch before on Saab 900 series with the hydraulic system functioning well, and changing out the clutch with no problems by basically putting electrical cable under the metal fingers and thus I was able to remove the input shaft.
That was a happier time.
Now, a friend parted out a car. I wanted the transmission, but, he didn't take off the clutch first when he had the engine and tranny in the car with available hydraulic. So, now I have the engine with a 5-speed transmission mated, but I cannot separate them because I cannot remove the input shaft. I did install an 8mm bolt into the input shaft, but of course I cannot relieve pressure on the fingers, so, now what?
Oh, yes, yes, Bentley says to use the "Saab Special Tool" but, I am not special and I don't have their tool. So, Bentley doesn't tell you jack about what to do if you don't have that tool.
There are some beautiful tutorials with pictures out there, mostly with the engine and transmission in the car, with working hydraulics and the Saab tool.
I tried with a Craftsman 24 inch breaker bar with a big washer on the 8mm bolt, but I can only wiggle the input shaft back and forth a few millimeters.
Can someone throw me a bone how to do this once the engine is out of the car with no functioning hydraulics and no Saab Special Tool? And what to put under the fingers when you cannot move the clutch since you have no hydraulics? There has got to be a way.
