The ring terminal ground you are describing is not something Saab ever did. Some car may have had that, but Saab (nor probably any manufacturer) would use a fastener to hold both a component (console) and a ground - that's an assembly line and future repair nightmare. Grounds are always dedicated fasteners for a good reason.
I honestly have no recollection of the ground wire Zig is referring to. I've seen it discussed in the Bentley, but I don't ever remember seeing it, so I'm of no help there. The only dash area ground I can quantify is the one I mentioned earlier, on the a-pillar, interior, near the big fusebox connectors.
AFAIK, the brown wire by the passenger front wheel well is for the hood pin - a little switch that goes to ground when the hood is open, triggering the alarm. It doesn't do anything else. I can't see how it would have any effect on the status LED.
