I would say that the first thing to do in that case is to turn the engine backwards so that the bolt that has jammed gets freed. You might not be able to unscrew it while it's jammed against the bearing block. You can do that with a wrench on the crank pulley bolt or raise one front wheel (only one), shift the transmission into gear (third is good) and then roll the wheel backwards. Then swap the bolts out for the correct shorter bolts.
