Try bypassing the entire ignition system Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Thu, 27 Feb 2014 07:46:24 In Reply to: Checked Fuse, Starter connections & Ignition Switch, 900 Commem, Thu, 27 Feb 2014 05:27:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Put the car in neutral. Take a length of wire and connect it to the spade connector on the starter instead of the yellow wire, then touch it to positive battery terminal brifly. The starter should do its thing (turn the flywheel vigorously) as long as you continue to make the connection. If it doesn't, then the starter (or solenoid) is bad.
Similarly, take a test light (either make one using a twelve volt bulb or use a voltmeter) and connect it to the yellow wire and ground the other end. I also keep a simple battery alternator tester that's basically the same thing in the car (they cost $10-15 at advance auto). Then place the bulb or voltmeter read-out where you can see it and turn the ignition. You should get 12 volts and the light should go on. That means the ignition wiring is OK. If that doesn't work, you'll need to start back-tracking - the fuse box is next.
