But how? I'm suffering greatly with something similar on my '88T, but when _my_ front wheel bearings went a few years ago they sounded like a steady grinding-textured THRUMMMMUMMMUMMM like a B-17 at altitude, with fine/constant vibration to match, so I'd assumed it's NOT those now. This is definitely a discrete, once-per-rotation "wub", not a continuous "thrummm". And yes, tires are worn but not yet herniated.
And _my_ wubwubwub, directly synched with axle/wheel rotation, does NOT vary at all between acceleration or deceleration like it did (also long ago) before I swapped/replaced inner drivers, so I've ruled those out as well. It does, however, feed a certain faint/constant/generalized vibration into steering wheel, shifter, pedals, etc, also building to a godawful racket by highway speeds (I avoid the highway lately).
The only variation it makes is when turning at speed: The volume increases and the "attack" changes but pitch remains the same, differently if I'm turning right or left, however. Yet steering itself tracks perfectly...
Last work I'd done before hearing this was replacing both axles with rebuilds and dead front shocks with Bilsteins... outer boots seemed bulkier than previous, was wondering if it was possible for these to be making inappropriate contact with each other.
So you're telling me there is more than one characteristic noise that failing wheel bearings can make? I'm not sure I've even gotten 60k miles out of this set...
