The general concern with these types of replacements is that the geometry of any headlight takes into account the bulb, and when you replace a halogen filament bulb with an HID light source you mess up the light projection. It might be brighter for you (but maybe not better coverage), but it really messes with oncoming traffic. Personally, it's not something I would do.
I like what Vern's talking about - it's on my to-do list this year. I'm not sure yet whether I will use projectors modules like that guy did or whether I will use a Hella modular headlight... I need to get some of those for my Fiero, so I'll have a chance to mess with them and decide.
I've been meaning to do this for years (I started a thread here a long time ago), but I've been hoping against hope to get "dummy" lenses thermoformed. Unfortunately, nobody I've found can do pieces the size of the stock glass at an affordable price. I might give it a go, but I just never have the time to execute all the "good" ideas I've already got. ;)
