The failure rate is the same in the metal models as in the plastic models. As I pointed out in my post, functionality is the same. Only the circuitry is different. The size is the same. The float is indeed smaller, but just as prone to failure from degradation as the older model. They didn't change the compound of the plastic, because they don't fail in Sweden. The newer units fail more often in the circuitry than the older units, because the recording wires are unprotected from side shock and torsion. All units only have 3 wires. The older units offer two different harness connectors and Saab made the unit to fit both. The older units also had the extra connector for possible future use? (Unused in all of the 17 sending units I have)...
