Adding Quality Sound to a Summer Ride

I need to replace the stock sound system in my 87 900 turbo convertible and I’m looking for advice. I have been thru all the previous posts. I would like to keep the current location of the speakers, 2- 4” in the slightly cracked dash and replace the 4x10’s located in the side compartment’s behind the front seat with 6x9’s. Convertible does not have the back deck for mounting.
I don’t need to shake the car next to me at a red light but would love to hear nice clear music while doing 65 mph up the Northway on a nice hot summer day with the top down. Adding a changer in the trunk would be nice addition.
Any suggestions or experiences, do’s or don’ts for both 4" and 6x9" speakers and good decks would be greatly appreciated and where can I find the 4x10 to 6x9 conversion adapter.
PS: I installed a Blaupunkt Munchen with Pioneer TS-A6969 (rear) and TS-A1365 (front door) speakers into my wife’s 92 Lincoln Continental. It has very clear sound with little artificial base. I really like the Blaupunkt, more than enough power with out distortion but confusing with so many options, speakers are good, don’t like the Lincoln but wife does, that’s what counts.
