Saab Bob,
Right-on! A nice sound system makes the ride. The best method for adding/upgrading a sound system is to outline your budget. I am not sure what you are considering spending for the system. My advice might not be the best for you, but I will offer it because I have invested my time in researching this very issue. I am very pleased with the result. The first upgrade should be the Head Unit. Go with a CD deck/changer manufactured by any of the major companies( Blau, Nak, Pioneer premier, Ken exelon). If your looking to go high end, the Nakamichi CD-45z is the best. It is a simple design and it looks nice with the Saab dash. The next area would be the front speakers. Go with a 4" components. There is an empty hole adjacent to the 4" speaker opening and defroster vent for an easy tweeter placement. Again the sound is a personal prefernce and its best to listen to a few. The 4" components will sound better than the 4" coax and it is very important for front staging. Box a 6.5 midrange for the rear fill. Finally, you will need an amp to power the system. In a convertable you will want at least a 4x50watts. if your looking for more of a "thump" then add a single 10" subwoofer and a mono amp. have fun . . .
