I cleaned the throtttle body on my 85 16 valve by removing it from the intake manifold and taking out the plate and shaft. Not very difficult to do. You will need a new O ring where the throttle body bolts to the intake manifold as well as new seals for the shaft. Mine was really dirty and could not be cleaned up properly with spraying carb cleaner in situ. Might have to replace the AIC hoses and the water hoses also at this time that attach to the body if the 8 valve is similar to the 16. Works much better now.
