You're saying that because spring replacements on a Cooper S and a Super 7 aren't worthwhile, that they won't help on a 9000? That's quite simply preposterous. Both of your cars were designed, at the very least, to be sporty. A Saab 9000 is a *luxury* car sent from the factory with springs that would equally at home in a living room couch. Shocks and struts aren't magical. If the existing spring rate is too quick you will accomplish very little by fitting expensive dampeners. The point of a spring is to handle the majority of the car's weight during cornering - that is NOT the job of the dampener. The dampener's job is modify the behavior of the spring, to DAMPEN its action, and smooth it out. Choosing your spring around your shocks/struts is just plain backwards, potentially hazardous, and certainly not conducive to the long life of the dampeners.
I'm not going to argue that there are plenty of springs out there that are mostly pointless - the Jamex springs on my 900S fall into that category - and I won't argue that lots of people fit springs for nothing more than looks - the Jamex springs on my 900S fall into that category too. But what I will say is that until you've spent dozens and dozens of hours underneath a Saab 9000 swapping suspension parts to see what works best as I and others on this board have, you may wish to sit back and listen before preaching. If not, fair enough - we can agree to disagree. I'm comfortable with that as well.
