thanks, I think I'll check it out. BG I have to order, but Hondas are everywhere. there have been a few people here (Bob Davis for one) that had MTL,,,the lighter weight stuff 75W80,,,destroy there Saab box in short order.
I'm trying to stray not TOO far away from what has been tried and true,,,,even after my use of Amsoil and Redline,,,I wish to keep it non synthetic if I can and as close as possible to OEM.
That being said, there have been very few threads over the years on TSN (oddly enough!) regarding the exact wear points in the 9K transmission except for syncros. Even the Synthetic gear lube these days is safe on all syncros, but there really hasn't been a discussion on why motor oil 'works better', even with syn gear lube of some brands like Amsoil 75W90, having very similar viscosities as 10W motor oil. Seals aside, syncros aside...care to guess? I have no idea. It flows the same it protects the same (or better), but syn gear oil seems to grenade the odd transmission,,,or is it just the fact that people are replacing the fluid to bandage a situation that is already terminal, like bearing noise or grind shifting from bad syncros.
thanks again
Steve
