The head gasket keeps four things separate; coolant, oil, combustion chambers, and the outside world. So a failure can connect any two of those things, with different symptoms. Sounds like you have two; oil leaking to atmosphere (not too serious), and also coolant leaking to combustion (serious). The bubble test should tell you about this one. If you are burning antifreeze, it has a very distinctive smell, kinda sweet. Any mechanic could tell you immediately from the smell. Apparently hot (burning) antifreeze is very corrosive to aluminum engine internals, so driving the car can cause additional internal damage. And even if the corrosiveness is not a problem, the liquid that bypasses the gasket can erode a groove in the head or block, requiring resurfacing that might be avoided if dealt with immediately. So you should have it checked immediately.
