Old style leaks more than new?

When you say the old style also develops leaks after some years, does that mean the old style is more prone to leaking than the new one, or that it's the same? Seems like the spot they would be likeliest to fail is at the transition from metal to plastic on the plastic tanked versions. I would figure the tendency to fail would be the same on either the old or new plastic tank versions.
