That is probably also a perceived shortcoming of Saabs in the market.
In the US people have this perception that 4 bangers are for econ-boxes and not for "real" cars.
A friend who thought a 9-5 was one of the best cars he'd driven bought an E-class Benz--a CPO car instead. He said the 9-5 cost too much for a car with a 4 cylinder, even though it would run away from his MB. And he loves to drive my 9K, after finding it is faster, better handling, gets better mileage, and is much roomier than his E.
A guy I know through business says a Saab turbo feels like a V-8, but he wouldn't buy one because it's only a four cylinder. "I gotta have at least a 6," he says. Why? "You just want a 6 or and 8 for the extra punch." Go figure.
