I was thinking about how I have only been as enthused as I am about my new SAAB about one other make of vehicle... and I have owned many ...
All my VW's ....
And I thought it would be neat to compare past autos and see what we all drove that brought us to our saabs...
(for some of us, this will require some real mental DIGGING...)

ME:

1.) '79 VW RABBIT 4-spd ... first car - LOVED IT! (I was 16 and I TAUGHT myself how to drive stick by driving it off the lot!)
2.) '82 TOYOTA CELICA 5-spd ... drove it til the cv joints snapped...
3.) '83 DODGE DAYTONA 5-spd ... god, that car was FUN! (don't remember what happened to that one)
4.) '75 VOLVO WAGON 5-spd ... PERHAPS MY FAVORITE CAR EVER (until now)...
that car served me VERY well....
5.) '71 VW BUS ... lived in it for almost a year (dead tour)... first engine I ever worked on... blew the rear main seal in that one... learned a valuable lesson about TOO MUCH OIL...
6.) '73 VW BUS ... replaced the '71 - rebuilt the engine ... eventually gave it to a friend when I got my...
7.) MOTOR HOME '79 DODGE 2-TON CHASSIS 440 SPTSMN ENGINE - GOT 5 MILES TO THE GALLON - BUT WHAT A GREAT WAY TO LIVE ... lived in that while travelling the country playing music at folk and bluegrass festivals for almost 2 years!
8.) '83 VW SCIROCCO 5-spd ... very fast car .. lot of electrical probs tho.
9.) '86 VW JETTA 5-spd ... great car ... don't remember how that one died either...
10.) '72 vw BEETLE ... cool car, but a big, LOUD, headache...
11.) '88 or '89 (not sure) FORD ESCORT 5-spd ... YUCH ... hated that car ... lived in NYC at the time and it kept getting towed for parking tix - eventually I just let them keep it!
12.) '71 VW BUS (yes, another one) more travelling...
13.) '90 DODGE LASER 5-spd ... FUN car!
14.) '83 (?) TOYOTA TERCEL 5-spd ... DOUBLE YUCH! AWFUL car... it was all i could afford when the laser got ... REPOSSESSED ! (oops)
15.) '?? CHEVY SPIRIT (or SPRINT - not sure...) WIERD LITTLE CAR ... 4 on the floor - THREE CYLINDER !! ... didn't have that for long...
16.) '91 VW GOLF GTI 5-spd, 16 vle ... great car!
17.) '86 VW JETTA 5-spd ... another great volkswagon!
18.) '79 VW WESTFALIA ... didn't have this for long - just borrowed it for a while...
19.) '97 HONDA CIVIC 5-spd ... perhaps the most RELIABLE car I ever had... still running (mom has it now)
20.) '92 SATURN 5-spd ... MEDIOCRE CAR.
21.) '81 MERCEDES 240D 4-SPD ... HUNK OF JUNK ... cool in theory - but no balls ... hated it - just sold it so I could buy my...

22.) 1989 SAAB 9000S ... which I now own and so far... LOVE!
