I'd suspect the rings, as others have said. Cracked, worn, or just lost tension. I'd go with cracked.
The normal oil film helps with the seal, but isn't the complete seal. Under normal conditions, it's a thin film; squirting oil in is a lot more oil than normal. My understanding of the wet/dry compression test is that if the compression increases greatly with a squirt of oil, it's a ring sealing issue. That can be either the rings or the walls. Of course, checking that is no pleasure.
110 psi isn't great, but it's not a panic, either. Silly Question - you squirted oil in and got the engine to run. After it has sat, does it still start and run? Does it run OK? Did the compression drop back down after it sat for a while?
