Main bearings going = turbo failure??

94Aero, 210K. Had to replace turbo shortly after headgasket change.(Turbo became very hard to spin) Indie's opinion is the engine will need to be rebuild very soon, he surmises the turbo failure is due to bad bearings in the engine.
How would I know for sure? Have oil tested? See what's in there?
