what he said was the bearings throw off very small particles(silver and copper) that are too small to get caught in the oil filter, but not too small to get caught in the turbo because of the tighter bearing tolerances and because is spins so fast and produces much more heat than engine.
When the turbo went, it was just gone. Got in the car to drive and no boost. It would spin when I put a socket on it, but not very easy at all. I purchased a newly rebuilt one and still have to send the old one out to be rebuilt, not sure where to send it.
