I have one of those made of plywood, I had Home Depot cut a half sheet of 3/4" plywood into 1 foot strips, then cut those strips into various lengths so that I could use dry wall screws to screw the various layers together. See the link. It's perfect for driving onto it, laying on the ground and reaching the drain plug and doing that and also removing and replacing the filter.

For more serious work, like removing your mangled drain plug, I suggest a pair of jack stands. Often the autoparts places have a sale of two jack stands and sometimes paired with the small jack.

As to your drain plug... Several ways to approach it. first all only ever use SIX POINT sockets from now on. And purchase two replacement drain plugs, one for when you get this one off, and one as a spare incase someone makes one start to round in the future. Much easier to replace it right away and cheap insurance.

You will want to us 1/2" drive sockets, the stock one was a 13mm unless someone changed it? If it's rounded you can be sure some oil change monkey really really torqued it. So, one way to get it off is to use a file or a dremel moto tool and carefully, slowly, take material off to fit the next smaller size, 12mm. then you need to use a breaker bar 18" or 24" or you can bet a piece of pipe and slipe over the handle. breaker bars are usually round and the mechanism in a ratchet wastes mechanical advantage (yes it sounds funny but it does have give in the guts of it) so again a breaker bar is the choice. Make sure that you keep the socket on the drain plug squarely. if you have a full size floor jack... take the handle off it and use it to slip over the breaker bar. Think lefty loosie, and use a smooth stroke. DO NOT hammer the socket into/onto the drain plug.

Let us know how it goes.
