Another method to remove the plug, cold chisel and 2.5 pound hammer.
Use the chisel to make a notch way out on the edge of the drain blug. Now put the chisel in the notch and tilt the chesel so it starts to approach a tangent to the edge of the drain plug, with the chisel pointing counterclockwise. Hit the chisel sharply with the hammer. Be careful you don't slip the chisel and chew the soft metal of the oil pan.
The torque spec for the drain plug is very low. I always use a torque wrench on it and I can easily get the plug loose with a combinatioon wrench.
And no, the plug will NEVER come loose if you torque it to spec.
