One can isn't going to hurt anything. Just jump that yellow wire to the + side of the battery for about 10-15 sec at a time until the can is empty, then plug it back in to see if you're above the low pressure switch threshold. If it was just a slow leak, this may be all you need. Read up on refrigeration systems, it's not all that complicated but you can make it that way if you want to. From my experience 1 or 2 cans will revive a dead system. I wouldn't go with the leak stopper stuff unless you see oil around your fittings. That's an indication that you have a pretty good leak that may need new o-rings.
