Yes, the can is pressurized but you typically charge the system slowly through the "low side" and watch your gauges carefully. There are many dangers to the system AND YOU if you don't follow this instruction. R134a is a liquid under pressure and to charge the system with a gas you must keep the can upright and close to room temperature. It will freeze as the gas escapes, so I usually stick it in a bucket of warm water or hold it in my hand to warm it up.
