I have a 97 aero that has about 140K. Today, it died while I was driving; I was going about 30miles/hr on a small street and the engine just quietly stopped. Tried to restart it again and it will try, but won't. It's definitely not the direct ignition cassette since I tried a spare, and it's not the spark plugs since I changed those as well. The starter tries and the alternator sound like it's turning when I turn the key. Giving it gas does not help. Any ideas? It feels like the engine is just not getting any fuel/gas, so maybe the fuel injectors?
Here are more details if you think you might be able to help:
I had something similar happen a week ago. I was pulling out a parking spot (car was parked briefly, so engine was still warm) and the engine just quietly died - almost like I stalled. I tried to restart and it would not for a couple of second with the key turned. But after maybe 3-4 tries, it started and was ok the rest of the night. It was not driven the past week, but started fine yesterday (Sat) and I drove it on the high way for >100miles without any problems. Same thing this morning, started perfectly fine, drove it for over 50miles and when I was able 10 block from reaching my friend's place, it just died while going down the street.
Thanks for any help.
