Thanks Paul... I should mention... Posted by PGAero [Email] (#1143) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PGAero) on Thu, 4 Feb 2010 15:21:50 In Reply to: Re: Headliner write-up, paul de k, Thu, 4 Feb 2010 07:59:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That I did use your instructions for my job.
There are a few things to note...
1. The C-pillars have seat belts going through them, so you have to unbolt the seat belt at the bottom, behind the carpet which is behind the rear seat back. This takes a large Torx drive.
2. On my '93, there's no way I can get the C-pillar covers off without (a) removing/loosening the speaker supports or (b) breaking the 2-3" long locating plastic protrusions. Perhaps there were some changes over the years?
3. I broke the retaining clips in the rear section and reinstalled mine without. No problems...
4. The sunroof shade can be taken out without removing the whole kit-n-kaboodle, but you do need to gently bend the metal guide to get at it. After removing the glass sunroof (easily done), the shade can be worked loose from the top. (Search the board here, that's where I got the info)
5. For me, the trick with applying the new material (I got it through WLSheadliners-com, #1927 lt titanium). After scraping the old foam from the board, I worked from the center to the front, then from the center to the back. Make sure to avoid having to stretch the material into the recesses. Be sure to use enough spray (I used 3M High-tack 76, also from the headliner source above) and work the material into the recesses without stretching it.
6. Finally, I set my headliner on a tarp and newspaper. After gluing the new fabric, I placed heavy, form-fitting objects on it to keep even pressure on the adhesive bond. (I've read about people using sandbags, but I used a couple layers of towels, then large bags of trailmix(!) and my sleeping bags. I trust that this helped with the longevity of the adhesive. (I learned the hard way that not all 3m adhesive is appropriate, but even that stuff stuck really well everywhere that is was pressed to the board.
I have pictures of the whole process, so I thought about including those in my write-up.
Cheers, and thanks for the help Paul!
