My daily driver is a 1991 9000 with the Aero seats and the T5, and without the dreaded traction control. My other driver is a 1994 9000 Aero, so I am familiar with both versions of the 9000.
The 1st generation cars are somewhat lighter, and that feature coupled with the lower gearing and the smaller turbocharger (faster spool up time) make it more fun to drive in local driving. Whereas the 2nd generation cars
are more enjoyable in highway driving (and with a bit of a MPG advantage re the higher gearing). Our 1991 did have the balance chain gear issue with very much work and missing teeth at 150,000 miles. Also the 1st generation cars are more likely to have rear quarter panel rust at this point in time (just had that repair done on our car). 2nd generation cars from 1994 on have an improved version of the manual transmission.
