Didn't mean to harsh on anyone.
Could be it's fuel filter if there's water that got into the tank. The filters sit sideways so water sinks in up to the halfway point and keeps coming out forever even as new clean gas flows thru.
My advice to you if you do go to check it out is first spray some combustible into the intake port. If it runs a bit and dies check gas level and add some if it's low, gauge might be wrong. If no dice still, then follow up on fuel filter.
If it DOESN'T cough or run for a bit with fuel sprayed in then swap the DI cassette from your car and see if that's it.
After that, maybe try the no-start checklist.
Good luck on this, could be you're in the right place at right time.
DI cassette is a common failure, and could be his mechanic has it right. Just because it's stated so oddly doesn't mean the mechanic didn't say it more clearly.
