the mixer flap motor, which is behind and to the right of the ACC unit - sorta toward the top of the dash - (LH drive model) may be going south. Mine was dead entirely, so while I searched for a functioning used part, I just pulled the ACC, reached back, and moved the flap by hand. It's connected to a rod, which is connected to a stepper motor on a little rotating gizmo. Reach back and you'll feel it. Turn on the heat, and when things get cold again, remove the ACC and actuate the flap. I think pulling back moves it to heat.
That said, one wonders why the motor is getting a signal to move around anyhow. Maybe it's the thing itself, or maybe not...If you can get your hands on a known good ACC unit, use that and see what happens. They seem to just stop functioning correctly. Another option might be the temp sensor (i think that's what it is) which is a needle-type thing stuck into one of the duct lines. If that's giving an inaccurate reading, the ACC may do funny things. Both are connected to the same 8" piece of steel under the dash, so if you find one, you'll find the other.
Yet another option is the cabin temp sensor - that little vent-looking thing below the seat heater switches. If that's not working at all, or giving incorrect readings, the ACC will act a fool.
These systems have about a billion sensors on them, all of which need to be in working order for the ACC to function. Also be sure the sun sensor (black half-sphere on the dash by the windshield) isn't covered...that's part of the system as well.
Best way to view all this stuff, rather than just imagining it from my shoddy description, is to remove the dash (which you may have to do anyway, if one of those parts are bad). Once there, everything will be clear. Don't forget the torx screw by the gauges or you'll have a bent dash top. It's on the upper-right side, close to the turbo gauge. You'll see a small access hole. T20, I think.
