An option I have resorted to with your exact same failure is to get the vents to blow air where you like them to (i.e. floor and face) then disconnect the motor connector behind the ACC. That will kill the servo control to both the heat mixer motor and vent control motor. You are free to move the heat mix to a comfortable position and it will stay there for the most part. The downside is that it will not be actively controlling the heat mix, so if you want a different heat level you will have to reach in there and fiddle with the arm to get it where you want it. I keep a small screwdriver in the car to help pop out the ACC. The whole process gets a few laughs from my passengers, but it works in a pinch.
