TCS is the traction control system. It compares the speed input signal (same as abs) for the front wheels to determine wheel spin. If wheel spin is detected, then TCS system calls on the ETS system to modify the throttle application to reduce wheel spin (uses the brakes some too in a 5spd car).
Now, if we were using a manual throttle system like in a non-tcs 9000, tcs would have no way to modify the throttle application. That's why the electronic throttle system is used so the tcs computer can manipulate the throttle. This also means the engine ecu can use ets to control idle which does away with the air idle control valve.
The button your talking about is the tcs on/off switch. It will allow you to disable the tcs function but of course ets will remain. Long story short, with this switch off, you can spin the wheels. But a fault in the ets system will NOT be bypassed and your car will remain in LHM if with or without the switch.
