I agree with Mr Bubble, apparently the gauge voltage is not going low enough (as measured by the EDU) to turn on the low fuel light. It is also confusing the miles to go, by sending a voltage that is about 2+ galons if fuel remaining. Normal voltage range is 1V empty and 5V full.
This could be electrical, but most reports indicate a misaligned pump or it could be a sensor arm problem. The float arm is made of a a stiff wire that is not easy to bend, but the pivot is a light plastic piece that could get broken or have the wire become unclipped. The float arm wire snaps into the plastic hinge with a couple friction fingers, which could unsnapped or broken.
