You guys should do yourselves a favor and make the tool. After doing this job a few times on several 9000's....and breaking off a few of those tabs. It much easier to remove the plastic nut and you'll not have to worry about breaking off the tabs. I made mine by going to the hardware store and buying a short piece of 3/4" wide X 1/8" thick flat stock steel. You only need a piece about 10" long. Bend the two legs downward about 2" long in a vise, weld a nut (maybe the same size as the lug nut) in the center and voila, you have a reuseable tool you can keep with your spare fuel pump assemblies or in your trunk. Even if you don't weld the nut in the center (so you can use a ratchet or lug wrench), you could grab the tool with a crescent wrench and turn it. I don't remember the distance between the two "legs" of the tool but you can measure the distance across the plastic nut. The 3/4" flat stock fits the plastic nut perfectly. My first go at it had four "legs" but two is plenty. This tool really helps if the nut is stuck because of gunk or someone overtightening it previously. Also, to Noel, before you pull the fuel pump, you can see if it's clocked correctly by looking for the little raised line molded into the top of the fuel pump assembly. If you go into the trunk from the rear, looking at the top of the fuel pump assembly, the mark should be at 3 o'clock. There a companion mark on the tank that it should line up with. No need to pull the tank to check....unless you wan to try out the new tool!
