See that black 94 Aero (automatic) out there? With a mere 126k on the clock? Yes, everything works (just about), after I installed new governor seals last night. In fact, this is the 25th Saab in our family since 1983, and it's among the best driving of them all, if not the best!
It certainly has a few little things to attend to, but it's in as close to perfect shape as any 18 year old car can be. Tight as a drum, mechanically sound, and it doesn't even have the requisite seeping oil anywhere on the engine. Yet.
Anyway, I discovered today that somebody in the past apparently tried to put the car on jackstands at the wrong location, and managed to tear the body seam at the outer edge of both front lift pads. Two holes right along the underside of each rocker panel. No big deal, except the carpet inside this hole is now getting wet when the car's driven in the rain.
Trying to think of an el-cheapo method to seal the hole. Any ideas? One thought was expanding foam shot right into the cavity from the underside of the hole, but I don't know if this material would create an adequate seal or withstand the rigors of a road car. Welding looks costly and difficult. I could probably seal it from inside by removing the carpeting and placing some kind of adhesive membrane there, but what kind, and where would I find it?
Who's got a brilliant, cheap, quick idea?
