David,
I think the best repair for the lowest cost and effort is to use both fiberglass and epoxy. I have done this repair many times for holes in both metal and plastic. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a piece of fiberglass cloth use for auto body repairs. Also buy some epoxy, the kind that comes in a twin tube. You may need two epoxy kits. Do NOT get the fast set (5 min.) epoxy, you need working time. This epoxy has a clear or yellow color to it when mixed. Do not get the dark type. It is more fluid and wet than JB Weld when mixed.
As suggested in other posts, pound the floor into as flat a shape as possible. Cut the fiberglass cloth so as to cover the repair area completely. Make sure you are wearing latex gloves now! Squeeze out the epoxy generously onto both sides of the fiberglass cloth and spread it out. You want the epoxy to completely wet through the cloth. Apply the epoxy soaked cloth to the repair area and smooth out. Let dry overnight. You can do this on both sides of the floor if you wish, or just on the inside and under coat the bottom.
You will find that this repair is very strong and long lasting. Similar to a fiberglass car. This repair also works well on cracked plastic panels (like door or console panels), putting the repair on the inside of the panel.
