Many thanks to everyone for your help and insights! A little more info: I received the car from my parents, who bought the car from the original owner and have all records. I believe it has been well-maintained and that we are just hitting an expensive repair cycle.

I went to the shop yesterday and looked at the car on a lift with the shop owner. There is a very obvious leak from the vicinity of the heater core. There are also obvious leaks on both sides of the radiator. Unfortunately there is also coolant on the underside of the water pump.

Here are the urgently needed repairs, as assessed by my mechanic:
Heater core
Radiator (NOT the upper rad hose, which is new (as I knew and pointed out) and does not need replacement)
Water pump

Mechanic suggested that since water pump needs replacement, also do serp belt (some of you have suggested tensioner and pulleys also, can anyone be more specific as to what parts these are? I called eeuro and they were unable to help...).

Tie rod end on drivers' side is starting to fail, but I'll attend to that later. Fluid flushes and battery cleaning later also. Car currently has no ebrake, cables were removed in a cross-country trip when caliper crapped out (long story); I have the cables and will replace later also.

Questions:
What tools will I need for the above repairs? I'm not particularly mechanically inclined and have little more for tools than a 3/8 socket set, screwdrivers and adult beverages. I've decided to attempt this rather than pay shop, despite the painful weekend or two it will likely cost me :)

Thanks again for all the help.
