A couple more DI warning signs Posted by John Fitzgerald [Email] (#77) [Profile/Gallery] (more from John Fitzgerald) on Mon, 1 Jul 2013 21:11:47 In Reply to: Re: My view: Change DI Cassette when it dies, Simon S, Mon, 1 Jul 2013 10:25:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Slightly sluggish accel for a given weight, load, slope, etc (it just 'feels' a little weak).
Misfire when the engine is cold, or slightly cold, and you need the boost for traffic. Usually gives a code right away. (but it won't misfire when you let the engine get all the way warmed up before getting into the boost)
Losing the 'burn off ' function - the little buzzing you hear when shutting down the engine after driving for a bit. Try turning off the radio, put a window down when you park, and turn the key off. You should hear the Trionic dump a bunch of high voltage on the plugs, for a few seconds, to get rid of any fouling.
Ocnl hard starting.
These all assume good NGK copper core plugs - BCPR7ES-11, gapped .9mm to 1.0 mm, with <= 10,000 miles. If you have older plugs, or non-copper core NGKs, do the plugs first before trying used spares or shelling out for a new DI cassette.
Btw, I haven't tried the new Asian made DI from eEuroparts, but I did buy a "made in Taiwan" red DI from Autohaus AZ last year. Didn't last long, but they did refund my money under warranty, which was very nice. Shelled out the big bucks for the SEM OEM DI to replace the replacement. And bought another used SEM DI for the second 9000, too.
Sincerely,
John
