Replacement alternator does not work Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sun, 29 Sep 2013 10:23:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Continuing the thread below, I got the replacement alternator from Autozone for my '97 CSE. It appeared to work OK at first, so I put everything back together.
Then when restarting the engine, it is back to battery voltage (just above 12 volts.) with the engine running. I know the battery is charged, and all cells check good with a hydrometer.
I performed the wiring check in the manual that came with the alternator, basically checking for voltage between battery and alternator case, then battery and alternator output terminal - passed these tests OK.
I checked before putting the alternator in and it appears to have a Bosch regulator, though who knows, it could be a Chinese counterfeit part.
Anything else on the car I should be checking? Before this is over I'll be able to swap out these alternators in my sleep...
