Wire connectors and crimps Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Mon, 30 Sep 2013 11:36:27 In Reply to: Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!, JerseySaab [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 30 Sep 2013 11:19:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As our cars age, these will be a bigger problem. The SRS light issue that many of us have is due to bad crimps at the factory which get worse over time as the resistance increases. I have a yearly headlight problem as some of the connectors are oxidized - cleaning only works for a while.
Note that crimp connectors are a fairly standard way of making automotive connections, but not in all cars: I recently helped diagnose an ignition problem on a friend's 1970 Mercedes 280C 3.8 (a beautiful car!) and discovered that all of the circuits we looked at had the connectors soldered to the wires! I doubt whether they do this anymore.
