How it worked out ?!? Outsmarted by my Aero. Here's what freaked me out=>
The fuel lines both run on the car's right side - BUT:
The fuel was dumping/spraying off the LEFT side somehow.
Possible causes occuring to me olde, tired brain included a sideways line leak, or a rotted/burst fuel filter canister.
Problem for me was that after the dramatic arrival of gallons of fuel it was sitting over a large fuel puddle which was atop snow & ice.
I could neither get near it while running to see it's exact source nor was I likely to lay down in gasoline to see what I could see.
(And now that it is fixed it does turn out that it was indeed my best choice not to try and get under the car after all...)
Given all of the above, I did what I considered sanest - located a small indy nearby (mine is 1 1/2 hours north) and had AAA flatbed it there.
So - what was it, after all my blathering on here ???
(I confess in advance that I feel very, very stupid for not checking for this exact thing myself - really !!!)
The wee screw that secures the line retainer atop the FP had rusted to a nub, allowing the feed fitting to rise up a bit, and presto...high pressure fuel leak, which coincidentally - just happened to deluge off the 'wrong' side of the car as opposed to the lines.
Woof. Do I ever feel stupid. But...live & learn covers this.
One screw, 15 minutes work - and I won't say what the guy charged me (but I will say I'm in no hurry to return there anytime soon).
And now that it no longer sprays it's fuel out - I'll be off ASAP to my REAL MECHANIC for a short list of other things which need addressing.
Thanks for the great suggestions folks.
Best Wishes to All !!!
