Bruce - - I haven't heard you say if the fluid level in the brake reservoir, which also feeds the clutch system, has been dropping. It would if you have any leak in the clutch hydraulics, and would need topping up.
A slave either works or it doesn't. It never cures itself.
A master cylinder does as I have been telling you fall into fits where it fails to seal and push the fluid, then snaps out of it for a while, as its sealing cup wears.
Fluid dripping from the bottom of the bell housing might not be hydraulic fluid. It could be engine oil, from the rear main crank seal, or it could be transmission gear oil, from the seal at front of tranny. On an older high-miles cars these may just be accumulations from long term seepage, or even if an active leak it may be something you can easily keep ahead of, those places don't tend to lose lots of oil.
It is okay to drive a car with a failing clutch master cylinder AS LONG AS YOU KNOW IT COULD QUIT AGAIN AT ANY TIME and leave you semi-stranded on the road, needing to start the car in second gear to coax it home. You can shift a car without the clutch but you're asking to damage the tranny.
