I actually think you are ok......check your boost by doing a series of WOT runs in third, fourth and fifth gear. As you have noticed, things happen very fast in second and first gear and its hard/impossible to get a good reading of the pressure....if its ok in high gears, then its ok on low gears as well. From what you tell us, I think your boost is ok. Do a series of WOT runs in fourth gear (starting at 1500rpm or so), if its ok, then...smile!!! The small fluctuations you are talking about is probably due to a bad DI or preferably badly gapped plugs. If you have problems (fluctuations) at high boost levels, narrow the gap to match 1mm or even less. This may very well be necessary with the TAQ box, dont be suprised of 0.8-0.9 is needed to get stable and smooth boost curves with that box.
I would not use the TAQ box without the 3" installed, wait until its installed and then give it a try. If you have problems now you will see the same problems x 10 with the taq box, simply due to the higher boost levels.
But again...I bet your problems are related to plugs/DI rather than leaks etc...!?
Keep us posted....
