...yet I'd think twice about putting anything other than specified fluid in a transaxle that has a history of being fluid-sensitive. Spec is 10w30 for all pre-'97 9K's, while '97 and later were equipped with Saab's new synthetic fluid ($13.40/qt. list, $10.00 discounted).
Personally, I'd go with either fossil oil or the new fluid, the latter changed according to the Saab TSB. If you have a pre-'94 with the older gearboxes without a drain plug, I'd use fossil oil if you must change. This is because the new fluid isn't compatible with engine oil and purging the old out is problematic. Saab's own spec warns against using sythetic fluid (pre-'97), so use anything other than the two aforementioned at your own risk. Amsoil is a good product and it may work fine, but why use gear oil designed for hypoid boxes in a transaxle without hypoid gears that was originally equipped with something else?
As Steve mentioned, there is a history of failures with Redline MTL, so think even longer about using it.
