Yes, the cadmium plating will wear off the surfaces contacted by the brake pads, but will remain elsewhere. For vented discs, this means no rust forming within the vented areas. Postings on this BB have mentioned that getting the colored plating is worthless, because it will wear down to silver metal on the braking surfaces, leading to two-color discs. Better to get the silver cad plating.
The biggest criticism of drilled discs is that they sometimes crack. Also, you are decreasing your braking surface. It helps with cooling, but this is only an issue with hard, repetitive braking. The slotted rotors do scrape the pads, which as I understand is their function, to keep a "fresh" brake pad surface, but I'm not convinced. I've never heard that the drilled rotors do this.
I'm thinking of trying to get vented front discs, non-drilled and cad plated.
