When the timing chain jumped tooth on my '94 CS, I checked several sources before finally decided to swap the engine. I live in central Jersey. The machine shop of National Parts Supply Co. can rebuild the head for $300 (eight months ago). I am sure machine shops in your area will do the same thing.
Somehow I didn't feel as comfortable rebuilding the head as swapping the engine, despite the engine was pulled from a wreck and was not tested. I still believe swapping the engine is much easier. Got mine for $900 plus $100 for the core from a yard in Waterbury, CT. I kept the old motor in my garage, figuring the DI cassette alone is worth more than $300.
Price for the motor varies from $900 to $1,700. I looked as far north as Maine and as far south as DC. Problem is only the '94 model fits because I didn't want to make it any more complicated than already was.
