Both are 2.3L with balance shafts. Different trannies.
The rust can be easily attended to by a body shop. If they were both driven in the same salt conditions, expect the '93 to show rust soon. The headliner can be replaced for a couple hundred. Agree with you that the later 9000's felt softer. The chassis is stiffer but the suspension is softer. I have a '91 9kt and a '95 CSE, and I prefer the stiffer ride of the '91.
