I have two Saabs, a 1978 99 Turbo, and a 1984 900 Turbo. They both have been daily drivers in their lifetimes. The 99 is in storage in Arizona, while the 900 is here in NW Ohio still functioning as a daily driver. While living in Arizona, the cars were very well cared for by two great Saab mechanics. Having moved to the wilderness of NW Ohio, I'm on my own.
I hope nobody minds, but I am trying to diagnose a problem with the 900 that surfaced the first winter spent here. I want to post to the 99 bb because when I post to the C900 bb I have seemed to get more advice that is applicable to 16v engines. Dave Kennedy (900Aero) suggested that I post to this bb because of a likeliness of more familiarity with K Jetronic CIS.
OK, the problem is that when transitioning from cold to warm operation, the engine "bucks" harshly. It almost feels like fuel is being shut off intermittently for a moment or two while the engine is warming up. There have been a few instances when the engine completely stopped and then would not restart until about a ten to fifteen minute wait on the side of the road. When ambient temps are mid forties and above, the problem is not noteceable. When temps fall into the low thirties and below, it is most obvious. Just yesterday, I checked and saw that the auxiliary air valve is only getting 10.5 volts. It is fully closed when the engine is warm, as well as being fully open when cold. I figured next step is check control and line pressures. I sure need some good advice, and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I do have a Bentley manual, but sometimes feel like I lack some understanding to get the most out of it.
