My buddy and I did one of those transplants in a '76GL - 4dr with automatic and power steering, in which the auto tranny crapped out. Installing a 4spd was tight, since we retained the power steering. The clutch master was so tight around the PS plumbing, that if the master ever went bad, it was an engine out procedure to replace it. I do recall how amazingly fast that car was with the 4spd. Obviously the automatic engine internals were pepped up some to propel the car with the dog of the automatic transmissions.

We sold the car to a customer, and a few months later it was totaled in an accident.
